Orthotics
Do you have...
-
neck pain or headaches with movement?
- hip or back pain?
- recurrent problems that exercise doesn't help?
- lower leg pain with weight bearing exercises
such as running?
- persistent heel or foot problems?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be a candidate for CUSTOM ORTHOTICS. Call Denver Physical Therapy for an appointment.
Why Orthotics?
Orthotics work to maintain "normal" foot position so that the foot can function properly. Normal foot position provides a stable base of support, allows absorption of shock and assists in the acceleration of the body. Without that position our body has to work harder
with every step. Orthotics act to decrease the stresses of daily function. They bring "the ground" to your foot limiting overuse of your muscles. They help with simple standing, walking, high impact sports or running. Orthotics improve shock absorption which helps prevent injuries further up the chain and then correct for malalignment issues which interfere with optimum performance.
Why are Orthotics different at DPT?
At Denver Physical Therapy you will be thoroughly assessed by one of our licensed physical therapist who have advanced training in biomechanical evaluation. A biomechanical evaluation consists of a static and dynamic assessment of your spine, pelvis, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Your physical therapist will correlate the findings of this assessment with the demands of your lifestyle and shoe wear to help decide if a custom orthotic is recommended.
How do custom fit orthotics differ from
over-the-counter orthotics?
At DPT, following the biomechanical assessment, we cast your feet in your "normal" foot position. This creates an "exact fit" for your orthotic. If needed, we perform a video gait analysis prior to casting. Based upon the biomechanical evaluation, gait analysis and your casting, your therapist will decide which type of material your orthotics will be made of; soft, semi-rigid, or rigid, the type of posting or accommodative devices (extra materials added to your orthotic to better control your foot), should be added. Your casts and orthotic recommendations will be sent to a custom orthotics lab for fabrication. The entire process takes 2-3 weeks.
